So, I've been trying something new each morning that I want to share with y'all. Something that's made my mornings much more enjoyable and productive!
I recently got inspired by a fellow blogger on Instagram (and yes, also Kanye West) to challenge myself to limit my morning phone use to, well, zero. That means once the alarm goes off, I simply set it aside for one hour. Honestly, after 3 days, I felt such a difference in my clarity, calmness and creative process that I'll never go back to the old days of mindlessly scrolling first thing. Morning rituals set the tone for the rest of our day, and filling our mornings with positive actions, instead of jumping right onto the old Insta feed, will empower productive behavior and sprout creativity! Try doing one (or all) of these activities before reaching for the cellular and diving right into "catch up" mode. Because if we have the ability to set ourselves up for a successful day, why wouldn't we?
Read a passage from an Inspirational book
Start your day with the words and encouragement of someone wise, someone you admire or look up to, rather than social media. Keep a motivating book on your night stand for easy reaching in the A.M!
Connect with your person
If you are waking up next to a loved one, prioritize them. Don't take these mornings for granted! Snuggle, talk about dreams, laugh, discuss plans for the day or even just roll over to say good morning before scrolling through Facebook, checking email, etc.
Tip- the bedroom is the perfect place to ban phone usage. Try keeping the chargers in the living room and invest in an old-school alarm clock (or use your Apple Watch as an alarm) to keep in the bedroom.
Turn on some music or a podcast
There truly is nothing like starting your morning off with a little dance party! Get creative juices flowing and uplift your monday mood with a playlist of your favorite songs or a podcast of choice. I have been so digging "Plant Proof" and Jenna Kucher's "Goal Digger" podcasts!
Drink water (with lemon=bonus points)
Put ya self care first, y'all. Enjoy a nice tall glass of warm lemon water to get the wheels turning and kick your digestive system into gear. It's energizing!
Do some stretching
Wake up physically with 10 minutes of gentle stretching or yoga. Go for a walk or run if that's more your jam. Whatever you prefer, give yourself time to clear out the cob webs and let your body catch up to your mind.
If you only do one of these things, make it this one! This could even be just 5 minutes, but take some time to connect with your breath. Center yourself. Set your intention for the day. Maintain your meditation practice and the benefits will repay you tenfold. Trust me on this one.
Think of a reason to be grateful
Think of as many reasons as you can to be grateful! There's something so powerful about starting your day with a grateful heart. Gratitude is always the way.
